Bard headed back to bullpen

The Daniel Bard-to-the-starting-rotation experiment is over, as Bard told reporters in Pawtucket on Friday that he's once again a reliever.

Red Sox manager Bobby Valentine confirmed the news during his daily press conference at Fenway Park, adding that the decision was mostly Bard's.

"I know I can be a good starter, but I already know I'm a great reliever," Bard -- who, after pitching one inning as a starter in his first appearance as a member of the PawSox, has pitched solely in relief in Pawtucket -- told ESPN Boston's Joe McDonald.
