Aviles on Valentine outburst: ‘All news to me'

MINNEAPOLIS -- A report in the New York Daily News which had Bobby Valentine yelling at shortstop Mike Aviles in spring training only to be confronted by the infielder's teammates who made him apologize for the outburst is "all news to me," Aviles said Monday.

"He's here with a new team, so of course he's going to have a different impression, different thoughts," said Aviles of Valentine. "We were talking, even from the first day of spring training, he had some things to help me out with short because he knew I didn't play much there last year, so he was helping me out with a couple of things.

"Other than that, there wasn't really (anything). I don't know where it's coming from."

Asked about the report, Valentine chuckled and said: "It goes from the sublime to the ridiculous, doesn't it, around here. Or around there -- those New York writers...

"But if we're going to (have full) disclosure, which we better do, the team party that I threw? I spilled a Coke on one of the players' wives. And I apologized."
