Atchison told to rest; believes he can pitch again this year

BOSTON -- Scott Atchison was relieved to discover that rest, and not Tommy John surgery, may cure his ailing elbow.

In fact, Atchison believes he'll be back pitching for the Red Sox before the end of the season. He said his rest period will be weeks, not days, but he believes he'll be able to return in September.

Atchison was given the "rest" diagnosis by Dr. James Andrews, whom the veteran reliever consulted for a second opinion.
