Agent: ‘Yanks would jump' at Cook

The Aaron Cook decision may have gotten a little more difficult for the Boston Red Sox.

Today is the deadline for the team to call Cook up to the major league roster before he can opt out of his current contract. The problem is, there are teams in the market for starting pitching, and one of those teams is the New York Yankees.

According to a tweet by Jon Heyman of CBS Sports an agent has said if the Red Sox don't call up the veteran right-hander, their rivals will likely swoop in to sign him if he opts out of his contract.

Bobby Valentine made it clear earlier this week that Cook would be pitching out of the bullpen if he was called up to Boston.

In five starts, spanning 33 13 innings, for Triple-A Pawtucket Cook has posted a record of 3-0 with a 1.89 ERA, with two complete games. He has held opponents to a .217 average.
