BOSTON -- Lucky enough to have tickets for Game 1 of the World Series tonight? Two words of advice:

Bundle up.

The comfortable fall temperatures of the ALCS have given way to a cloudy, dank, pre-winter chill at Fenway Park. Still, Red Sox players aren't particularly bundled up; Jake Peavy and John Lackey are in their normal workout jerseys as they play catch in front of the visitors' bullpen, and approximately a dozen or so of their teammates are similarly dressed as they loosen up prior to batting practice.

Here are some quick news and notes as you prepare for the opening game between the Sox and Cards:

-- Carl Yastrzemski, who threw out the first pitch before games in both the 2004 and '07 World Series, will do the honors again tonight.

-- Mary J. Blige will sing the national anthem.

-- 'God Bless America' will be sung by retired U.S. Marine Corps Sgt. Dan Clark in the middle of the seventh inning.

-- In pregame ceremonies, three living Medal of Honor recipients -- Salvatore Giunta, Clinton Romesha and William Swenson -- will be honored.

-- The Red Sox are participating in their 12th World Series, passing the Tigers for sixth-most behind the Yankees (40), Cardinals (19), Giants (19), Dodgers (18), and Athletics (15).

-- The Sox are 7-4 in the World Series. The seven titles are tied with the Giants for fourth-most behind the Yankees (27), Cardinals (11), and Athletics (9).

-- The Sox are looking to join the 1991 Twins as the only teams ever to win a World Series one season after finishing in last place.

-- David Ortiz, who has started all 67 Red Sox postseason games since 2003, will become the ninth player to appear in at least three World Series for the team, and the first since three players did it in 1915, 1916, and 1918. Only Harry Hooper has appeared in more (4, 1912-18).

-- This will be Ortiz’s 15th postseason series as a member of the Red Sox, passing Jason Varitek (14) for the club record.
