Dan Shaughnessy has been saying all summer that the Red Sox can't keep it up. He's told Sox fans to prepare themselves for the collapse.

But now, even the normally cynical Boston Globe columnist can't deny that there are a lot of reasons to feel good about the way things are going for the Red Sox.

"I still think they're fragile, but I've been saying that for five months now," Shaughnessy told Gary Tanguay on "Uno's Sports Tonight." "They've consistently done really good things when we think 'OK, here comes the fall.' "

Cross off another naysayer. Why have the Sox exceeded Shaughnessy's expectations? Pitching.

"The way the starting pitching has gone, you can make a case that they'll do more than a 90-win season," he said. "They can go deep into the playoffs with this kind of pitching."
