Mike Napoli heads to the bench for Game 3 as the non-DH portion of the 2013 World Series begins.

With Games 3, 4 and 5 scheduled to be played by National League rules at Busch Stadium, Red Sox manager John Farrell has installed designated hitter David Ortiz at first base in place of Napoli. Daniel Nava is also back in the lineup in left field, and Jarrod Saltalamaccha -- contrary to speculation -- remains behind the plate. There were thoughts that, after Saltalamacchia's subpar defensive performance in Game 2, that David Ross would do the bulk of the catching the rest of the way.

For the Cardinals, Carlos Beltran is back in right field; his bruised ribs, which made him almost a game-time decision in Game 2, are apparently healed enough that the Cards can commit to him hours before the first pitch. But Allen Craig's healing foot may not be healed enough for him to play the field; he's back on the bench and Matt Adams remains at first.
