It's not the Phillies infielder that Boston had been linked to for most of the season, but the Sox did add a new face on Saturday.
The Red Sox acquired infielder John McDonald and cash from the Phillies in exchange for minor league pitcher Nefi Ogando.
McDonald has already played for three teams this season, having also played for the Pirates and Indians. McDonald has struggled this season, putting together a slash line of .098/.179/.164 while playing second base, third base and shortstop.
To make room for McDonald, the Red Sox transferred Alex Wilson to the 60-day DL.
In 55 innings this season with the Red Sox's high-A affiliate, Ogando had posted a 4.09 ERA.
