ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. -- After posting an "if-I-offended-you" apology Sunday for his Twitter rant on Saturday night, Rays left-hander David Price made a far more sincere one to reporters on Monday, saying he was "embarrassed" by his actions and that he felt he let his team down.
Price said his postgame comments about David Ortiz (in which he blasted Ortiz for admiring his eighth-inning home run) and a series of Tweets -- in which he ridiculed Tom Verducci and Dirk Hayhurst of Fox and got into back-and-forths with taunting fans -- were "an emotional overflow" from his Game 2 defeat. He said he regretted his comments about Verducci and Hayhurst immediately after he sent the Tweet, and also said he asked to meet with Ortiz, whom he called the greatest DH ever and someone he respects greatly for way he treats people.
Ortiz told reporters Sunday that he and Price had talked and that "we're cool, man."
"I feel like I let our organization down," said Price. "I let my teammates down. That was just a very dark spot in my career up to this point."
