  • A.L. East: Red Sox 8
  • A.L. Central: Tigers 11
  • A.L. West: A's 15
  • N.L. East: Braves 7
  • N.L. Central: Cardinals 17
  • N.L. West: Dodgers 6

Now that the baseball pennant races are in the home stretch, we'll be here each weekday with a wrapup of the previous night's action. Here's what happened on Wednesday night, September 11:

A.L. EAST: Red Sox (89-58) lead Rays (78-66) by 9 1/2 games

A.L. CENTRAL: Tigers (84-62) lead Indians (77-68) by 6 1/2 games and Royals (77-69) by 7

  • Tigers 1, White Sox 0: The White Sox are like an oasis in the desert to A.L. contenders; they've played 13 straight games against the Red Sox, Yankees, Orioles and Tigers and won two of them.  (AP)

  • Royals 6, Indians 2:  Tito's boys now head to that oasis for a four-game series and, after dropping two straight to Kansas City (and barely escaping with the lives in the one game of the series they did win), I'm sure they're looking forward to it. (AP)

A.L. WEST: A's (84-61) lead Rangers (81-64) by 3 games

A.L. WILD CARD: Rangers and Rays hold top two spots; Yankees (78-68, 1 game behind Tampa Bay), Indians (77-68, 1 1/2 games back), Orioles (77-68, 1 1/2 games back) and Royals (77-69, 2 games back) in the hunt

N.L. CENTRAL/WILD CARD: Cardinals (85-60) lead Pirates (84-61) by 1 game and Reds (83-64) by 3
