David Ortiz has been around the block before. He already owns two World Series rings with the Red Sox and knows what it takes to win a World Series.
Ortiz thinks the Red Sox have it.
"We have everything we need," said Ortiz. "We have all the weapons we need for the playoffs."
The Sox boast a strong starting rotation with at least four pitchers - Jon Lester, Clay Buchholz, John Lackey and Jake Peavy - who could be handed the ball with confidence in a do-or-die game.
That kind of veteran presence is important in the postseason, where things can go from good to bad in a hurry. From everything they've shown this season, the Sox have plenty of veteran leadership, and it's led them to the playoffs for the first time since 2009, courtesy of a worst-to-first storybook season.
"Guys are saying 'You're doing things nobody expected,'" said Ortiz.
Just imagine what they'll say if the Sox can continue their recent run through October.
