BOSTON -- Jake Peavy will make his Red Sox debut on Saturday against the Arizona Diamondbacks at Fenway Park.
It marks Peavy's third start since returning from a fractured rib. But Peavy threw 118 pitches in his last start, with the Chicago White Sox on July 25.
Red Sox manager John Farrell said on Friday there isn't a specific pitch count they'll limit Peavy to. They'll monitor him just like they do everyone else.
"The stress of the pitches that he throws tomorrow will have an effect on how deep he goes," said Farrell. "But I know, after being down six weeks, he threw a couple bullpens, he went out on rehab, and he jumped up pretty quick on his pitch count.
"It was a quick advancement to [118 pitches]. So, there's not a number that says he's got to come off the mound tomorrow. But like every starter, we'll monitor it close, and we'll see how his stuff is playing against Arizona tomorrow."
