Now the speculation can begin in earnest.
The Red Sox are the A.L. East Champions and now have a chance to secure the best record in the league and assure themselves of home field advantage throughout the playoffs.
But they are not without their issues.
Shane Victorino and Jacoby Ellsbury are banged up and need to be healthy if the Sox hope to have their full assortment of tools in the postseason.
Aside from health, CSNNE.com Red Sox Insider Sean McAdam says the team is in an enviable position.
"Other than the 7th and 8th inning issue, which reared its head again tonight, this team is in pretty good shape to make a pretty deep run in October."
So where do the Red Sox rank among the potential A.L. playoff teams?
"I think if you're ranking the teams in the American League, by virtue of their talent and the record they've built and the consistency they've shown, you have to make them the favorite," said McAdam. "Not a prohibitive favorite, but if you're picking one of the five playoff teams in the American League, you have to like their chances as much as anybody."
