Prior to Game 6, John Farrell played a hunch. He rolled the dice with Jonny Gomes instead of Daniel Nava.
That one turned out just fine for Farrell.
The Red Sox are now 6-0 when Gomes plays, after dispatching the Tigers in Game 6, 5-2.
What does it feel like to play for several different teams in a career and now go to a World Series with the Red Sox?
"To be honest with you, I'm not too familiar with these emotions that I'm feeling right now," said Gomes. "This is pretty special."
Gomes has certainly fit in with the city of Boston, and if he's able to help the team take down the Cardinals in the World Series, Gomes will have a permanent place in the hearts of Red Sox fans.
