When the Red Sox summoned Daniel Bard from Double-A Portland this week, it raised some eyebrows. The stated reason for sending him down two levels was to stress that a good outing or two wouldn't result in his return to the big leagues; the Sox felt he had problems they wanted him to fix over the long term. And yet that -- bringing him back after a couple of good games -- seems to be exactly what they did.
