Several months ago, there was a far different scene in Boston. In the wake of tragedy, the Red Sox offered an escape, a few hours of distraction and a sense of normalcy.

Now, the team and the city are bonded perhaps closer than ever.

Ryan Dempster reflected on the relationship and what it means to the players.

"When you look back to that day, and everything that happened and how sad and tragic that was... and for us as a team to kind of rally around that and rally around the city and [the city reciprocated]. The city has rallied around us."

The team embraced the city's fighting spirit.

"This team, there's nobody gonna fight harder or give more than this team right here and I'm happy to be a part of it."

Dempster says the division title is just one step on the ultimate goal.

"We've got a long way to go," said Dempster. "This is fun. We're gonna enjoy this and celebrate. I hope everybody in Boston celebrates tonight and enjoys it just as much as we do."

It's safe to say the city will be happy to oblige.
