Cardinals right fielder Carlos Beltran is 1-for-3 lifetime against Red Sox lefthander Jon Lester. He and his teammates will have a chance to become more familiar with him Wednesday night when they face each other in Game 1 of the World Series at Fenway Park.

What kind of challenge does Lester present to Beltran, a proven postseason performer?

"Our approach is to stay in the middle of the field on him," Beltran told reporters Tuesday on World Series media day. "It's the same way we approached [Dodgers lefty ace Clayton] Kershaw [who the Cards knocked around in their series-clincing NLCS Game 6 victory]. Make him get the ball up. Don't chase that cutter."

Most of the Cardinals will be seeing Lester for the first time in Game 1. Only Beltran, Matt Holliday (2-for-6) and Yadier Molina (0-for-3) have faced him.
