Reports indicate that Julian Edelman has talked with the Patriots, but let's not break out the champagne and confetti just yet.
There's no guarantee that the conversation was anything more than due diligence, but there are those who believe the conversation was an indication that the two sides will reach a deal that will bring Edelman back to New England.
Gary Tanguay and Kirk Minihane discuss the chances of Edelman returning on the latest edition of Arbella Early Edition.
"I think Edelman’s gong to get done, which surprises me," says Minihane. "I didn’t feel that way 48 hours ago."
That would certainly make Tom Brady happy.
Last year, when Brady basically needed name tags to identify his receiving options, it was Edelman who stepped up, hauling in 105 catches for 1,056 yards and 6 touchdowns.
Not Danny Amendola, the man signed to make Wes Welker expendable.
Not Rob Gronkowski, who (shockingly) got hurt (again).
Not Aaron Hernandez, who... yea, never mind...
It was Edelman. The guy who tested free agency last year and had to come back to the Patriots when he couldn't find an offer.
"This is the only chance in Julian Edelman’s career where he’s going to get a chance to get paid, and I think he’s going to go to the market," says Tanguay.
"If I’m Julian I go to the market. I think if he signs, he’s stupid."
On the other hand, if New England doesn't bring back Brady's favorite receiver, they can always look forward to another game of "name that Patriots receiver."
