Northeastern suspends hockey coaches

Northeastern hockey coach Greg Cronin and assistant Albie O'Connell have been suspended indefinitely by the school as a result of possible NCAA recruiting violations.

According to a release on the university's Web site, the school said it unconvered potential violations involving "telephone and text message legislation . . . during the course of routine internal compliance monitoring."

In a statement, athletic director Peter Roby said: "We are taking this action now to reinforce a culture of integrity within our department," athletic director Peter Roby said in a statement. "We are committed to operating an athletics program that is reflective of the values of the university we represent. It is imperative that we conduct our activities in full accordance with NCAA and conference rules. We are dedicated to that effort, and we are taking all appropriate steps to ensure that is the case."

Assistant coach Sebastien Laplante will run the team in Cronin's absence. The Huskies upset Boston College, the No. 1-ranked team in the nation, 2-1 on Saturday night.
