FOXBORO - Rookie minicamp opened Friday.

The verbal portion of the day trumped the visual. While it was good to hear from six rookies, access to practice was limited to watching stretching and conditioning drills from a distance and seeing about three minutes of one positional drill.

The only way players were identifiable was by the uniform numbers on their shorts. They did not wear numbered jerseys.

A few brief notes:

Safety Nate Ebner spent the first few minutes of practice on an exercise bike.

Jeremy Ebert, a wide receiver, was wearing No. 80. Asked if he knew who wore the number previously, Ebert said, "Tim Brown." Close. No cigar.

Second-year linebackers Markell Carter, Aaron Lavarias and Alex Silvestro were all in the mix.

The team will work out again on Saturday.
