Merloni: Sox should have gone after Myers

Saying that the "worse they can do is get caught in the middle", Lou Merloni thinks the Red Sox should have pursued a deal for Royals super-prospect Wil Myers, who was dealt to Tampa Bay on Sunday.
"I say build for the future," Merloni told Jessica Moran on 'SportsNet Central' Monday night. "I want a foundation . . . that's going to make it last here for another two or three or five years, starting two years down the road."
Earlier in the month, reports surfaced that Kansas City offered Myers to Boston in a deal involving Jon Lester. The Sox weren't interested at that price.
"To me, Jon Lester is a great pitcher; I think very highly of him," said Merloni. "But I think they might have missed out on an opportunity to maybe build something for . . . the next time they expect to contend."
