BURLINGTON & NEWTON, MA, March 6, 2014 – Comcast SportsNet, NECN, and Horizons for Homeless Children today announced the second Annual “Horizons for Homeless Children Week” will take place the week of Monday, March 10th continuing through Sunday, March 16th. The initiative will include several on and off-air elements implemented by both networks in an effort to raise money to benefit Horizons for Homeless Children, a non-profit organization dedicated to improving the lives of young homeless children by ensuring they are prepared for school success.

As part of the campaign, on-air talent from both CSN and NECN have visited Horizons for Homeless Children’s Playspaces in Massachusetts. Additionally, the networks produced several public service announcements for Horizons featuring Comcast SportsNet and NECN personalities which will be in heavy rotation on both networks throughout the week. In addition, both networks will feature consistent on-air Horizons messaging, news stories, in-program integration and additional robust television coverage. CBS Boston Radio’s 98.5 The Sports Hub and 100.7 WZLX will also help to promote the week across their airwaves. Several corporations have also signed on as matching sponsors, including the Boston Celtics Shamrock Foundation, Walmart, Santander Bank and Blue Cross Blue Shield of Massachusetts. Several off-air tactics will be executed as well as part of this fundraising effort.

“Horizons for Homeless Children Week is a fantastic opportunity to help make a real difference in the lives of so many children who are affected byhomelessness,” said Bill Bridgen, President of Comcast SportsNet New England. “The donations received today will significantly help young homeless children to get on the right path for a better tomorrow and we plan to utilize all of our network assets to drive this message throughout the week.”

“We are so proud to get behind Horizons for Homeless Children and their important mission of helping homeless children and their families,” said Mike St. Peter, General Manager of NECN. “We hope our support and the support of our viewers will make a difference in the lives of these children and, in a small way, help ensure them bright futures.”

“We could not be more grateful for this opportunity with Comcast SportsNet and NECN,” said Dianne Luby, newly appointed President and CEO, Horizons for Homeless Children. “They have been tremendous partners with Horizons and we need that support now more than ever. We recently learned that the number of homeless children in Massachusetts has doubled since 1990. This is not okay and we need to enlist help from our local communities."

Throughout the week and anytime, donations can be made by visiting www.horizonschildren.org.

About Horizons for Homeless
One in every 45 children in the United States is homeless each year, more than 1.6 million homeless American children. Homeless children experience chronic stress and trauma from the loss of relationships, multiple moves, or witnessing domestic violence. Horizons for Homeless Children is a nonprofit organization dedicated to improving the lives of young homeless children and their families by ensuring that they are prepared for success when they enter school. Horizons provides high quality early education, opportunities for play, and family support services. Today, Horizons serves more than 2,000 young homeless children each week in Massachusetts through three comprehensive early education centers and 151 shelter-based Playspaces across the state.

Horizons Playspaces are fully operated by volunteers. Training for volunteers is ongoing throughout the year and additional volunteers are always needed.
