The Red Sox announced that they have named Greg Colbrunn as the team's new hitting coach. They may still announce the hiring of an assistant hitting coach.

"Gregssuccess as a hitting coach and his experiences as a Major League playermake him a strong addition to the Red Sox coaching staff,"said Farrell said in a press release.

Colbrunn beat out other interviewed candidates who included Brewers special assistant to the GM Craig Counsell, Braves assistant hitting coach Scott Fletcher, Red Sox hitting coordinator Victor Rodriguez and former Diamondbacks hitting coach Rick Schu.

Colbrunn played for seven major league clubs over 13 seasons and was a career .289 hitter. Since 2007 he has been on the Charleston RiverDogs coaching staff, serving as hitting coach and, for one season in 2010, manager.
