Borriello spoils start of Liverpool's American tour

BOSTON – A late Marco Borriello goal forced Liverpool FC to start the American leg of its preseason tour on the wrong foot following a 1-0 loss to AS Roma on Wednesday at Fenway Park. 

Borriello scored in the 90th minute when a redirected  Leandro Paredes corner kick went through the legs of Jack Robinson to give the Italian side a last-gasp victory.

Given the way much of the match played out, it wasn’t entirely surprising that a breakthrough would prove to be elusive. Both sides encountered difficulties with the tight dimensions (98 X 75 meters) of the baseball stadium, causing a noticeable number of passes to stray over the endlines.
