- LAUSANNE, Switzerland - In a decision that strikes at the roots of the Olympics, wrestling is dropped from the Summer Games. Modern pentathlon was thought to be the sport most likely cut from the roster.

- ZURICH - Soccer is under suspicion as never before, sullied by a multibillion-dollar web of match-fixing that is corrupting increasingly larger parts of the world's most popular sport. First in a four-part story.

- TUSCALOOSA, Ala. - Four football players for national champion Alabama are arrested on charges that include credit-card fraud and robbery, online jail records show.

- VIERA, Fla. - Nationals pitcher Gio Gonzalez says he has cooperated with a Major League Baseball investigation surrounding a Miami clinic where his name reportedly appeared in records for banned drugs.

- NEW YORK - The Westminster dog show chooses its best in show after the final three groups are judged. The affenpinscher Banana Joe and a hound named Jewel are in the running. Announcement about 11 p.m.

- SCOTTSDALE, Ariz. - A banner at the entrance of Scottsdale Stadium reads - 2012 World Series Champions. Bruce Bochy's pitchers and catchers report as they begin the quest to defend that title.

- EAST LANSING, Mich. - No. 4 Michigan plays No. 8 Michigan State, the Big Ten rivals meeting for the first time while both are ranked in the top 10. Game starts 9 p.m.

- CHICAGO - Rutgers women's basketball coach Vivian Stringer goes for her 900th career win when her team plays DePaul. Game starts 9 p.m.

- LONDON - Real Madrid's Cristiano Ronaldo has emerged from the shadow of Lionel Messi to lead the latest AP Global Soccer Rankings.

- DENVER- Recent studies by industry groups show snowboarding is no longer growing as it was for its first 30 years. Sales in 2011-12 fell 19 percent to 31 percent, depending on the region of the country studied.
