In what has been a long season full of poor quarterback play, the New York Jets have opted to bench starter Mark Sanchez in favor of second-year man Greg McElroy. The team announced on Twitter that it will start McElroy for Sunday's tilt against the San Diego Chargers.
The move comes after Sanchez's most recent debacle last night in which he threw four interceptions in a 14-10 loss to the Tennessee Titans that eliminated New York from playoff contention.
It will be the first start of McElroy's career although he did see some action earlier this year in relief of Sanchez against Arizona, when he went 5-for-7 for 29 yards and a touchdown in the Jets' 7-6 victory.
