Shawn Thornton and Gregory Campbell were among a handful of Bruins players still skating locally and attempting to keep in shape while waiting for a breakthrough in the NHL lockout. The two Bs fourth liners will get into a little game action soon, however, as both Thornton and Campbell have signed on to play in a Champs for Charity hockey game organized by Adam Burish, according to a report in the Chicago Sun-Times.
Thornton was a member of the Chicago Blackhawks organization before breaking into the NHL as an enforcer with the Anaheim Ducks, and has always held a special fondness for the Windy City. So theres no surprise that Thornton would sign on for a charity hockey game that includes former Bruins defenseman Joe Corvo, Nicklas Backstrom, Daniel Carcillo and Jamal Myers according to CSNChicago.com Blackhawks Insider Tracey Myers.
The two teams will be coached by Chicago Cubs hurler Ryan Dempster and blonde bombshell Jenny McCarthy.
The former Blackhawks forward put together the idea for a charity hockey game in Chicago where he won a Stanley Cup with the Blackhawks in 2010, and got most of the 2010 Blackhawks along with other players around the league to participate in the event. Notable players from around the league playing in the Oct. 26 charity game include Bobby Ryan, Ryan Suter and Jack Johnson. The game will take place on Oct. 26 at AllState Arena and the proceeds from the game will benefit the Ronald McDonald House Charities of Chicagoland & Northwest Indiana.
Thornton, Campbell, Johnny Boychuk, Daniel Paille and Milan Lucic are among the handful of Bs skaters still holding daily workout sessions at Boston rinks as players like Nathan Horton and Chris Kelly work out with groups in their respective homes of Florida and Ontario.
