A man has been charged with raping a woman at Brandon Meriweather's Foxboro home in late August, ESPN reports. The Chicago Bears did not know about the alleged crime before acquiring Meriweather and are looking into the matter.

At the time of the alleged incident, Meriweather was a member of the Patriots.

James Roberts, 29, of Biloxi, Miss., was arrested as he drove away from Meriweather's home on Aug. 25, was arraigned and pleaded not guilty, according to the report. He was ordered held on 10,000 cash bail and made bail.

Roberts and the alleged victim were considered guests in the home, but it is unclear whether or not Meriweather was home at the time of the alleged attack on July 13.

Meriweather was cut on Sept. 3, and the Bears signed him the next day to twice what he was set to receive this season from the Pats.
