TORONTO -- Two sources with knowledge of the situation said Tuesday that Josh Beckett's ankle injury is a short-term ailment and is unlikely to impact him in terms of the postseason.

Beckett's status was still unknown Tuesdayafternoon when Terry Francona met with reporters, as his injured anklehad yet to be examined by doctors back in Boston. He was scheduled to be examined late Tuesday afternoon at Massachusetts General Hospital.

Beckett's next scheduled start, Sunday in Tampa Bay, will be taken by Jon Lester in his regular turn. It had been the Sox' plan to give Beckett an extra day of rest this week, with John Lackey pitching Friday and Kyle Weiland pitching Saturday.
