CSNNE.com Patriots InsiderFollow @tomecurranThe Patriots spent Saturday lopping players from their roster. They may be angling toward adding one with a familiar name. Brian Waters, the 34-year-old former guard for the Kansas City Chiefs, was in for a workout according to ESPN's Adam Schefter. Released by the Chiefs at the end of July, Waters was a Pro Bowler in 2010 and four times before that. He was an All-Pro in 2004 and 2005. Waters' release by the Chiefs was amicable. He spoke well of coach Todd Haley and GM Scott Pioli. They spoke well of him. Said Waters at the time of his release, "There are some good teams out there that have a chance to win the Super Bowl. It's just a matter of what opportunities come along.''The Patriots are light in the interior line. Right guard Dan Connolly has a leg injury and his primary backup Rich Ohrnberger was put on injured reserve. Waters would likely be a plug-and-play option if he's kept himself in shape over the last month. The Patriots had another veteran, Andre Gurode, in for a visit on Saturday as well. Tom E.
