FOXBORO - Tuesday morning, Bill Belichick said it was possible that Kevin Faulk would start the season on the team's Physically Unable to Perform (PUP) list. Tuesday night, Faulk sounded like he expected it. Speaking at the New England Patriots Charitable Foundation's Kickoff Gala, Faulk was asked about being placed on PUP and having to miss the first six weeks of the season. "It would be difficult, but thats probably whats going to happen," Faulk said . "Ill deal with it as it comes. That goes with the territory." The 13-year veteran is coming off a torn ACL suffered against the Jets in Week 2 last season. His mentoring role is invaluable to the team. But he's becoming further removed from his days as the best playmaker in this offense ."Whenyou've been doing it for this long, you understand the business and understand the game, so you accept your role and move on," Faulkexplained."Keep getting better while on the PUP list, each and every day, and wait to see when your opportunity comes again. That's been my role for the past 13 years." Faulk told me he has no definitive answer as to where he'll start the season. He told reporters, "I went into coach Bill Belichick's room, me and him talked, and he said, 'I know if I said I can put you out there right now, youd give me 120 percent.' And hes probably right, but he was like, 'I want you to be better than 120 percent.' Thats Bill. Hes just being himself. I told him, 'I understand, whatever it is I can do to help this team win, thats what Im going to do.'" Tom E. Curran can be reached at tcurran@comcastsportsnet.com.
