But if you're looking to see them in action in Thursday's preseason opener against Jacksonville, fat chance of that happening.

Patriots coach Bill Belichick said both players -- neither practiced on Monday -- are "day-to-day" with no definitive timetable for them to get on the field.

Belichick also said that players who did not practice on Monday will likely not play in Thursday's preseason game against the Jaguars.

Ellis, the newer addition, is starting his Patriots career on the activephysically unable to perform list, according to ESPN. He can resume practicing at any time. If he does not come off the list before the roster is cut down to 53 players, he could be placed on the reservePUP list, which would keep him out at lease six weeks.

Haynesworth, who is expected to miss his fourth practice on Tuesday, has a history of being out of shape at the start of the season.

"He's getting some treatment," Belichick said of Haynesworth. "I think he'll be back out there as soon as he can; hopefully he'll be back in a day, or hopefully days."
