Plaxico Burress is back in New York, but not with the Giants.
The Jets announced on Sunday morning that they had signed Burress to a 1-year, 3.017 million deal. The money is fully guaranteed, according to ESPN.
Burress has been out of football since 2009, when his season came to a screeching halt after he accidentally shot himself in the leg at a New York nightclub. After that incident he was arrested on gun charges and served a 20-month prison sentence.
Patriots fans remember Burress for when he helped the Giants beat New England in Super Bowl XLII. He caught the game-winning touchdown in the fourth quarter as the Giants beat the Pats, 17-14, ruining New England's run at a perfect season.
The 6-foot-5 Burress gives the Jets a tall target and an effective red zone weapon to play alongside newly re-signed receiver Santonio Holmes.
The Jets decided not to re-sign receiver Braylon Edwards and had shown interest in picking up Randy Moss or Malcolm Floyd. But in the end, their choice was Burress.

And the Jets may not be done delving into the free agent market. It's been reported that former Ravens tight end Todd Heap visited the Jets on Saturday and was personally picked up at the airport by Rex Ryan.
