Josh Beckett who has battled a hyper-extended knee for the past week, was cleared to make his scheduled start Sunday night in the series finale.

Instead of throwing a side session Friday afternoon, Beckett was set to throw on flat ground.

"It was too soon (before the start to have a regular side),'' explained Beckett.

Beckett, who pulled himself out of the All-Star Game Tuesday in Phoenix after beginning his warm-up session in the bullpen, said Friday that much of the problem was that he was unaccustomed to coming into the middle of the game.

"There wasn't a lot of time (to get ready),'' he said. "With the starter going one inning and everything like that. I couldn't get loose and I wasn't comfortable going out there with my leg not being loose, especially coming out of a start prior to that with that injury.''
