Down on the Farm: Ranaudo puts in the work

At 6-foot-7 with a fastball in the mid-90s, righthander Anthony Ranaudo has the tools to maybe someday be a major league stud. Now at Single A Salem, he's doing all he can to help himself get there.

"I take care of my business," Ranaudo said. "I work every day to try to get better and better. The ultimate goal is to be pitching at fenway."

He works hard in between starts, but his competitiveness is at its peak when he's on the hill.

"I want the ball," he said. "I like to set the tone early. I like to go right at guys. I'm an aggressive pitcher. I'm gonna go out there and compete with my best stuff and attack guys."

If he stays on this path and his work ethic doesn't waver, pitching coach Kevin Walker can picture him on the game's biggest stage.

"He's got big league tools," Walker said. "When he refines them and puts them together, he looks like a top of the rotation guy to me."
