Allen (ankle) will undergo surgery for bone spurs

BOSTONAs expected, Boston Celtics guard Ray Allen will have surgery on those painful bone spurs in his right ankle that limited the sharpshooter near the end of the regular season and at times in the playoffs.

When the C's season ended with a Game 7 loss at Miami, Allen said getting the bone spurs taken care of quickly would be a priority.

"Thats my first priority, just going into surgery sometime," said Allen, who will undergo the procedure Wednesday. "If I can do it tomorrow, I would do it tomorrow. Thats probably my main concern right now. My body feels good. Thats been the only issue."

Allen, who has spent the past five seasons with the Celtics, will be a free agent this summer. Boston will be among the teams to pursue him.

The Boston Herald was the first to report Allen's impending surgery.
