BOSTON -- Daisuke Matsuzaka met with noted orthopedic surgeon Dr. Lewis Yocum in California Tuesday afternoon and then returned to Boston, where he will huddle with the Red Sox to map out a course of action.
Matsuzaka has been sidelined for two weeks with an elbow strain. He spent last weekend in his native Japan taking care of some business affairs before returning to the U.S. Monday.
The Red Sox medical staff has prescribed rest and rehab for Matsuzaka, hoping that will enable him to return in the second half of the season.
There remains an outside possibility Matsuzaka may require Tommy John surgery, since a sprain in the elbow ligament is actually a small tear.
It's believed Yocum also recommended a course of rest and rehab Tuesday, though the Sox will wait for Matsuzaka to return to Fenway before going through all the options.
The Red Sox made it interesting Tuesday night as thebats came alive in the final two innings of an eventual 10-7 loss to theChicago White Sox.Red Sox manager Terry Francona put Josh Reddick, DrewSutton, and Mike Cameron into the lineup in a 10-1 game in the top of theseventh, replacing Jacoby Ellsbury, Dustin Pedroia, and Carl Crawford.Cameron went 0-for-2, but Reddick and Sutton combined forthree RBI and two runs scored in the eighth and ninth. Combine their late-gameproduction at the plate with David Ortiz three-run home run, and the Red Soxwent from being down 10-1, to having the tying run on-deck with Adrian Gonzalezat the plate in the bottom of the ninth.But it was all for naught, as Gonzalez was called out onstrikes to end the game.Its not going to help us in the standings, said Francona,about his teams late offense. Bobby Jenks pitched a scoreless eighth inning in his firstgame back from the disabled list, allowing two hits, but getting Paul Konerkoto line one right back at him, which Jenks turned into a double play to end theinning, and his night.He threw all strikes, which was really good to see, saidFrancona.
The Red Sox announced that Saturdays game againstthe Oakland Athletics at Fenway Park has been moved from 7:10 p.m. to 1:10 p.m.The move was made because Game 2 of the Stanley Cup Finals between the Bruinsand Vancouver Canucks is on at 8 p.m.
