BOSTON -- Adrian Gonzalez was familiar with what Chicago White Sox pitcher Jake Peavy had to offer on Monday night at Fenway Park.

The two were teammates for several years with the San Diego Padres. Now, both are with different American League clubs, and both are producing.

On Monday, Peavy got the best of the Red Sox, picking up his second win of the season, allowing only three earned runs over seven innings of work.

Gonzalez had his say, though, in the first time the two have ever squared off. The Red Sox slugger went 2-for-4 with a home run. It was a solo shot into the White Sox bullpen in the top of the first inning.

He mixed it up, said Gonzalez. He didnt repeat too many things. He kept using every pitch and both sides of the plate, and just kept everybody off balance.

I know how hes going to pitch, added Gonzalez. I know how he attacks hitters, and what his mentality is at times. You can never be right, but you go up there with a certain plan that you think will work.

At the end of the day, its about execution. And game plans are just a game plan. Youve got to execute, and the pitchers got to execute. Ive always said, if a pitcher executes, theyve got the advantage.

After missing almost a month, reliever Bobby Jenks will be activated from the disabled list Tuesday. The Red Sox hope Jenks can help lighten the late-inning load that has fallen squarely on Daniel Bard in Jenks's absence.

Jenks was bothered by biceps tendinitis in early May and was placed on the DL on May 5.

He made two rehab appearances with Pawtucket over the weekend.

The Sox signed Jenks two a two-year, 12 million deal over the winter to give them another experienced power arm for the seventh and eighth innings.

He was unscored upon in five of his first six outings before becoming ineffective, leading to a diagnosis of the biceps injury.

To make room for the return of Jenks to the roster, the Red Sox will option Michael Bowden back to Pawtucket. Bowden pitched two scoreless innings of relief Monday night against Chicago.

Lefty reliever Franklin Morales, who was placed on the disabled list over the weekend with some soreness in his left elbow, underwent an MRI Monday morning.

The MRI revealed that there is nothing structurally wrong with the elbow and showed only some swelling in the flexor mass.

Morales was obtained earlier this month in a trade with Colorado for a player to be named later or cash.

The Red Sox scored twice in the bottom of the third inning, when Dustin Pedroia ripped a fastball up the middle with one out and runners on second and third. Both runs scored, and it tied the game at 3-3.

It marked the seventh and eighth RBI for Pedroia in his last seven games, after having no RBI in his previous 17 games.
