BALTIMORE -- Despite numerous reports of the Red Sox' interest in Ivan "Pudge"Rodriguez as a possible solution to their catching problems, severalindustry sources suggest otherwise.
The Washington Nationalshave indeed let it be known that Rodriguez can be had, but the Red Soxdon't believe Rodriguez, 39, is a viable option behind the plate.
Inhis prime, Rodriguez had a terrific arm but had a habit of callingfastballs to help himself throw out baserunners. Pitchers didn't regardhim as much of a game-caller and his receiving skills, once average,have since slipped considerably.
