VANCOUVERDay two of the Shane Hnidy tryout continued with the Bruins taking to off-ice workouts on Thursday morning.Hnidy was the only player on the Pacific Coliseum ice and spent an hour working out with Bruins assistant coaches Doug Houda and Geoff Ward with Bs general manager Peter Chiarelli watching from the stands. Its a lot of fun right now. Id been trying to maintain and get on the ice as much as I could the last month or two, said Hnidy. As much as you do that, you want to get out with guys of the Bruins caliber. The shoulder feels really good. Ive been pretty much cleared to do everything, but there are obviously a few more steps Ive got to go through. It feels good shooting, everything Ive done and all of the tests Ive put it through have felt good. Ill just continue to keep elevating it.Hnidy talked a bit more about his rotator cuff injuryadmitting that he underwent surgery for the problemand also explained where his famous dressing room personality came from.Hnidy cited guys like Curtis Leschyshyn and Scott Mellanby as players that really helped shape everything he wanted to be as a leader in a hockey dressing room, and those influences created a player in Hnidy that the Bruins value just as much off the ice as they do on it.I was lucky coming up. When I first got up I didnt say much, but I was lucky through my career to have enough guys and veterans that I played with and say how they handled things, said Hnidy. You learn as you go, and I have pretty broad shoulders. Ill give it out and they can give it back, and thats fine.Youve got to grow a pretty thick skin in this game. Youve got to be accountable, and when guys can take it upon themselves to know when or not they should be held accountable, realize it and correct itthats part of the process. The 35-year-old Hnidy was renowned for being a guy that would say whatever was on his mind to anybody else on the hockey club, and didnt pull punches if he felt effort was lacking. That also meant that Hnidy was also ready to absorb criticism coming his way if he wasnt quite performing up to the level expected of him.Joe Haggerty can be reached at jhaggerty@comcastsportsnet.com.Follow Joe on Twitter at http:twitter.comHackswithHaggs
