Former Boston Celtics assistant coach Tom Thibodeau, now head coach of the Chicago Bulls, was named Eastern Conference Coach of the Month for January.

The Bulls (33-14) were 12-4 last month. They went on a 10-game winning streak in January, including an 11-point victory over the Celtics.

In their first season under Thibodeau, the Bulls are undefeated in the Central Division and rank third in the conference, three games behind the Celtics.

As a key member of the Celtics coaching staff, Thibodeau emphasized a defensive-minded style of basketball. The C's lead the NBA in fewest points allowed (91.55 ppg), and the Bulls are ranked third overall with 92.02 points allowed.

Thibodeau spent three years with the Celtics. He won a championship with the team in 2008.

The Celtics are 2-1 against the Bulls this season. The teams will wrap up their regular-season series on April 7 in Chicago.
